Description of the artwork

The emerald cross is a symbol of redemption, of the death of Christ and His shedding of blood as an act of love for humanity. There is no greater act of love than giving one’s life for the salvation of others. The sacrifice of a God who did not hesitate to give His own son as an offering of love encompasses one of the greatest mysteries misunderstood by many. The enigmas and spiritual mysteries in this act of love leave us perplexed, and even the symbol of the shedding of Jesus Christ’s blood is another enigma. Why was that act of love or His shedding of blood necessary to seal a new covenant between God and mankind?

Jesus Christ was the fulfilment of a promise God made to His people, and the sacrifice was necessary, like that of a Lamb led to the slaughter, for the expiation of sins and for salvation to reach all of humanity. When this act of Christ’s death on the cross occurs, a veil is torn in the spiritual realm, and many things happen in moments that escape the sight of the human eye, fulfilling what was written by the prophets of the Old Testament or the Torah, as well as the Psalms and the book of Isaiah:

Isaiah 53:7-10

He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth; like a lamb that is led to the slaughter, and like a sheep that before its shearers is silent, so he opened not his mouth. By oppression and judgment he was taken away; and as for his generation, who considered that he was cut off out of the land of the living, stricken for the transgression of my people? And they made his grave with the wicked and with a rich man in his death, although he had done no violence, and there was no deceit in his mouth. Yet it was the will of the Lord to crush him; he has put him to grief; when his soul makes an offering for guilt, he shall see his offspring; he shall prolong his days; the will of the Lord shall prosper in his hand.

The artist Darío D’Milan wants to dazzle the meaning of the death of Jesus Christ on the cross in this artwork. However, it is a much deeper topic where secret codes are hidden in the life of Jesus, His death, His blood, and His resurrection, as well as other mysteries and their relationship with the number 7. For example, Jesus was the seventh prophet born of a virgin woman, and the last seven words on the cross have a special and profound spiritual meaning.

  1. “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.”
  2. “Today you will be with me in Paradise.”
  3. “Woman, behold your son…”
  4. “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”
  5. “I thirst!”
  6. “It is finished.”
  7. “Father, into your hands I commit my spirit.”
